Parking: The gates to enter the Zoo to park open at 7:00 a.m., but you can get an early start by parking in the Oakland Community College (OCC) parking structure located at 739 S. Washington Ave., Royal Oak, MI 48067 (corner of Lincoln and Washington Ave.) Complimentary shuttles will take you to and from the Zoo beginning at 6:30 a.m. The last shuttle will leave the Zoo at 2:00 p.m. All cars must be out of the OCC parking structure by 2:30 p.m. Shuttles can accommodate strollers and wheelchairs.
Zoo Walk Participation Fee: Each walker over the age of 12 is asked to raise at least $25 in order to offset the cost of admission tickets, entertainment, parking, etc. Walkers aged 3-12 are asked to raise $10. Walkers 2 and under are free.
Our hope is that each walker will play a significant role in helping us reach our fundraising goal of $600,000. If each walker raised an average of $100, we would surpass our goal, and be able to provide even more programs and services to the people of Michigan living with chronic kidney disease. The Kidney Walk at the Detroit Zoo is our largest annual fundraiser, and 90% of proceeds go directly to our programs such as Kid’s Camp, Emergency Fund, Enhance Fitness, and many more.
The first 1,500 walkers raising $50 or more will receive a commemorative logo’ed item. All walkers raising $100 or more will receive the official 2017 Kidney Walk t-shirt. Walkers raising $250 or more will receive additional prize opportunities approximately 6 weeks after the walk, as well as be entered into a drawing to win one of 3 Meijer gift cards.
