Research

Medical research continues to be of critical importance to the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan and the patients it serves. By funding medical research, NKFM can continue to advance the treatment and care of patients with kidney and urologic diseases. For the 2002-2003 fiscal year, the NKFM Research Committee awarded $100,000 to four local researchers.

The grant process is highly competitive and each grant received is reviewed by an external and internal merit peer review procedure conducted by the research committee. The research committee, which is comprised of individuals from a variety of nephrologic specialties representing a number of the medical and research institutions in Michigan and around the country, reviews each grant application submitted during the review period. This process enables NKFM to fund high-quality projects.

In addition to our Michigan-based projects, we also support our national organization's research program. NKF funds projects throughout the country and invests more than three million annually in research.

NKFM is steadfast in its mission of eliminating kidney disease. By funding further intensive medical research, the dream of eradicating all diseases of the kidney and urinary tract can become a reality.
